Community Health Needs Assessment
Defining our Community's Health Needs
As part of Augusta Health's commitment to the community, we coordinate—with the collaboration and input of many organizations and agencies across all sectors of our community—a regular and comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). Our first CHNA was in 2009 and the current assessment was completed in 2019.
The CHNA is a systematic, data driven approach to determining health status, behaviors and the areas of greatest health need in the local community. It provides information so the health issues of greatest concern can be identified, and resources allocated. Areas of opportunity were determined following the review of national benchmark data, number of residents affected and the potential impact on community health and wellness.
Areas of Opportunity:
- Nutrition and Physical Activity
- Mental Health
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease and Stroke
- Substance Abuse
- Access to Healthcare Services
- Tobacco Use
- Sexual Health (specifically teen births)
- Housing
- Cancer
- Potentially Disabling Conditions (Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, rheumatism and other chronic conditions)
- Respiratory Diseases
- Injury and Violence
- Kidney Disease
From these 14 areas of opportunity, Augusta Health will identify the significant health issues it will address in 2020-2022 based on two important criteria: 1) Scope and Severity, and 2) Ability for the Hospital to Impact.
