Cardiovascular Services Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography Accreditations

Augusta Health Cardiovascular Services located in Fishersville, VA has been granted a three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the area(s) of Adult Transthoracic, Adult Stress, and Adult Transesophageal. This latest accreditation awarded to Augusta Health Cardiovascular Services demonstrates the facility's ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care in echocardiography.

Accreditation by the IAC means that Augusta Health Cardiovascular Services has undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be compliance with the published Standards thus demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in echocardiography. Comprised of a detailed self-evaluation followed by a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, the IAC accreditation process enables both the critical operational and technical components of the applicant facility to be assessed, including representative case studies and their corresponding final reports.

American Academy of Sleep Medicine Accredited Center

To meet the AASM Standards for Accreditation, the Augusta Health Sleep Clinic demonstrates excellence in patient evaluation and care, physician and staff training, equipment and facilities, emergency procedures, and other areas relevant to patient care.

American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Certification

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular and pulmonary problems, to recover faster and improve their quality of life. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families. The AACVPR is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to review individual facilities for adherence to standards and guidelines.

American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer

Based on the outstanding Cancer Center program at Augusta Health, the program receives full Cancer Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, a status it has maintained since 1994. The 2009 accreditation decision recognized the Augusta Health Cancer Center program in a new category, The Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program, based on the growth in volumes that have taken place in the last three years.

The Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center Certification

Augusta Health demonstrated that its stroke care program follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients. Each year about 700,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke, which is the nation's third leading cause of death.

College of American Pathologists (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation

The Augusta Health Main Laboratory has been awarded accreditation based on results from an on-site inspection. There are more than 7,000 CAP accredited facilities worldwide. During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

The Augusta Health Breast Health Program is the first hospital in the region to receive full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation is granted only to those centers that undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of performance and compliance with 27 evidence-based standards of care covering 17 components of care. The next closest accredited programs are in Winchester and Richmond.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

Augusta Health has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Lung Cancer Screening by the American College of Radiology

The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation is a voluntary program that recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.

Mammography Accredited Facility by the American College of Radiology

Augusta Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose X-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

Nuclear Medicine Accredited Facility by the American College of Radiology

Augusta Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in nuclear medicine as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

Radiation Oncology Accredited Facility by the American College of Radiology

Augusta Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient's pain.

Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI (coronary angioplasty)

The Accredited Chest Pain Center's protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether or not they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that patients are neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.
